My name is Mike, and when I was a young boy around the age of five, my father bought a 1987 bowrider from a gentleman down our street. Every Sunday afternoon my father would take me and my older brother fishing on the lake near where I grow up. That was something my grandfather would do with my dad when he was a kid.
I have such great memories of those days, and that is why I thought it would be fun for my son to experience the same type of excitement I use to have. That is why I bought myself a Bayliner Element back in the summer of 2017. When I bought the boat it was used, but the previous owner said they hardly ever had it out.
The first thing that I learned when I bought my first boat was that I had no idea the type of work or responsibility that went into owning a boat. All those years growing up, my father would always captain the ship while my brother and I sat back and enjoyed the ride.
As a boating “beginner,” I knew I wasn’t alone when it came to learning how to proper boat care, and safety, and this is why I begin writing down what I have learned on this website.
It’s been a crazy two years, but seeing the smile on my son’s face when we get to the boat launch, I won’t trade that for anything.
